Upcoming Neighborhood Cleanup
We will have a neighborhood cleanup on Saturday, September 5. We will meet on the basketball court next to what used to be the Home Park Learning Center at 1015 Tumlin St NW at 9:00am. Iced bottled water and donuts will be provided! If you drive, the parking lot of City Baptist Church will be available to park in next door (across the street from the basketball court).
The city will provide bags, gloves, and trash grabbers for us, and they will pick up all of our trash bags when we finish.
This is a great way to meet your neighbors and even check off community service hours, as HPCIA is a 501(c)(3).
All are welcome, as well as kids of all ages. Everyone can lend a hand to clean up our neighborhood! We plan to take around 90 minutes from start to finish.

Saporta Report on Atlanta’s Disappearing Tree Canopy
A recent Saporta Report provided an in-depth look at the decreasing tree canopy in Atlanta due mostly to growing development. Per the report, the city did an assessment in 2024 about the disappearing canopy but resisted releasing the information to the citizenry. As Home Park itself has experienced first hand a much decreased canopy over the past severaL years, due largely to development in the neighborhood, this might be an interesting read for you and give us all food for thought on how to mitigate the effects in our neighborhood.

Atlantic Station Under New Management
Atlantic Station has come under new management by Trademark Property Company, which has assumed management, leasing, and operations of Atlantic Station. As our adjacent neighbor to the north, Atlantic Station has a direct effect on Home Park with its myriad number of events, traffic and community goings on at their property. The last few years have been somewhat challenging given the issues they’ve had which often spills over to the surrounding areas in various forms and fashion. We’re looking forward to this change of management and, hopefully, a better Atlantic Station.
News from the HPCIA Transportation Committee
The transportation committee has a couple of items they wanted to share with you regarding transportation updates in Home Park. 1. Transportation committee is planning a group ride/ribbon cutting with Propel ATL to celebrate the opening of the 14th St bike lanes. More details will be communicated in the coming weeks, but the event is open to all and will include a neighborhood ride along the bike lanes followed by a meal at a local Home Park establishment. More information to follow. 2. Atlanta City Council passed an initial measure to locate and eventually pave the remaining dirt/gravel roads within the city. This first phase includes identifying and taking inventory of existing gravel roads. Press release
Update on Holly Street Park
We have made quite a bit of headway this summer on the new Holly Street park.
The Parks Committee completed our third summer Holly St. Park clean-up on August 8th. Thank you to all who have come out for the scheduled work days as you have been instrumental in helping us get the park into a more useable space. We have also received a new master plan for the park by a landscape designer which gives us more flexibility to create a park that is for the neighborhood to use in various ways.
The next big steps will be to get a contractor to do some serious excavating on one side of the park to remove a messy bamboo forest as well as create a water retention feature. Additionally, once we have the design finalized, we’ll have to get construction documents drawn up to apply for a permit from the city. Of course, all this will take time and funding, so stay tuned for updates. In the meantime, please check the Events section of homepark.org/ for more information on scheduled park work days.
The next work day is scheduled for Saturday, August 22nd from 9 – 11 am.

BCN: Share your Experience of Excessively Loud Vehicles

We have a tremendous opportunity to make our case to Georgia state legislators for stronger legislation to address excessively loud vehicles and modified exhaust systems.
During the last legislative session, e were successful in getting a study committee approved. Now we need your help building the strongest possible case by providing real-life stories that demonstrate how this issue affects our communities.
We are collecting impact statements from: * Individuals: Share how loud vehicles and modified mufflers affect your daily life, your family, or your pets. * Physicians and Healthcare Professionals: Explain how excessive noise impacts your patients. * Patients: Especially those living with PTSD, autism, sensory sensitivities, anxiety disorders, or other conditions made worse by sudden loud noise. * Businesses: Tell us about feedback you’ve received from customers, including hotels, restaurants, and other local businesses. * Law Enforcement: Share how noise-related complaints and 911 calls affect your operations, where these issues occur most often, and what resources would help enforcement.
If you know physicians, veterans, individuals with PTSD, parents of children with sensory processing disorders or autism, or anyone else who has been significantly affected by loud vehicles, please share this request with them. Every story helps. The more impact statements we receive, the stronger our presentation will be.
